Jan 2015 Sand Martin Bank

April 19th, 2015

We have finished digging out the sand martin bank in the Three Owls Watermeadow Reserve. It may take a while for the sand martins to return and until they do the bank will be able to provide a home for other wildlife. Hopefully we will see bunnies, mice and bumble bees making their home in the bank as well as the sand martins.

Where the ground has been dug over and disturbed should be good for poppies and corn flowers to take root in so we have ordered a batch of seeds to spread and hopefully there should be plenty of flowers for the bees, butterflies and insects in spring and summer. We will also be planting a batch of gorse plants along to top of the bank to help give it some stability and provide extra cover for wildlife.
