Feeding your local wildlife – badgers & foxes

April 25th, 2015

This is a guide to supporting your local wildlife. These foodstuffs are not suitable for rescued wildlife in captivity, more a list of suitable things you can supplement your furred and feathered friends diet with while they forage for their own too!

Badgers & foxes are omnivores, which means they eat insect, meat and vegetable matter! Which makes them pretty easy to supply food to. Suitable things to feed your local creatures with include

Tinned dog or cat food

Dry cat or dog biscuits

Hard boiled eggs (shells off)

Peanuts

Small pieces of non-citrus fruits (apples, pears, plums)

Dried fruits and raisins

Sunflower hearts (shells off)

Suet pellets

Uncooked minced beef

Cooked chicken (no bones)

Mealworms, dried or fresh (badgers only)

Rabbit from your local game dealer

Most meat scraps as long as they are not processed or cured (such as bacon or sausages etc.) as these are too salty

Don’t forget to provide a bowl of water too! Clean water can be hard to get in the summer.
