Anybody who was at our 2013 Open Day may remember us campaigning about how the field in front of us was going to be put up for sale by the Cumbria County Council and how much Knoxwood Wildlife Rescue Trust really needs this land. Since then we have been all out in our efforts to ensure that Knoxwood would have a fighting chance when the land came up for sale… Sadly, all our efforts were in vain as the land could not be transferred to us as it was a Council asset and had to be sold at a fair price and the money put back into the Council, nor could we afford the set price for the land, even with every penny we had. HOWEVER at the next to last moment it turns out we had guardian angels, namely the Three Owls Trust in Rochdale, who have purchased the field outright for Knoxwood to use! We will be turning all 6.25 acres into wildlife reserve, release areas, habitat and more! watch this space.

Now that Three Owls own the field we can start making some changes to it. We aim to return the field to state that will be habitable to all wildlife. The field used to have a sand bank that had sand martins living in it and we hope to be able to put this back and encourage the sand martins to return. We will also be removing some of the field drains along the bottom of the field and widening out the beck to help to return it to the Watermeadow it once was. We will also be spreading a variety of different grass and wild flower seeds through out the field that will be beneficial to the local wildlife, bees and butterflies.
